Hello Friends,
|
|
Once again the world became aware of the struggle for all Tibetans living both inside and outside of Tibet following the events beginning on March 10th. Our website will not reflect sensitive material or information, however this is an opportunity to update you from those who live and work at Jatson Chumig. Basically, only two pieces of information can be said here; first and foremost - All of the children of Jatson Chumig, as well as our employees and staff are all safe. No one has been detained and no one has been injured. Secondly, the serious situation continues and this will have a profound impact on all Tibetans as well as Jatson Chumig itself. Besides the loss of any 'progress' which may have been made over the past few years, we now also face huge economic hardships because of the lost upcoming 'tourist season' in Tibet.
Every additional person who learns about Jatson Chumig and the direct impact we are having on educating and housing our students, as well as teaching them vocational skills to continue the art of Tibetan craftmanship - increases our exposure worldwide. We envision not hundreds, but thousands of people wanting to become involved and helping Tibet through the most powerful of all tools ... Education.
We truly apprecaite your support and we see the recent events as a time for all of us to learn & grow. We will get through this particularly difficult time and in fact with continued support, this is an opportunity to learn more about non-violence and to have more compassion for others. These two qualities will allow us to become stronger and better - Tibet Can, Tibet Will.
The Jatson Chumig Family wishes everyone, everywhere ... Peace. --- April, 2008

Funding Concerns
|
|
We do not like to always focus on funding and the costs of operating Jatson Chumig School and Orphanage but with the current situation, fundraising is now more crucial than ever. We have lost income in just some of the following ways:
- Loss of income from Global Crossroad which gives a percentage from every volunteer
- Without visitors, there are no gift shop sales
- Loss of income generated from our rickshaw drivers
We hope you'll become more involved by making your donation today.

We have also received many emails requesting that we post up on the web site more pictures and information of the students. Our web site has been updated again to reflect these changes.
STUDENT PROFILES - this link will now take you to a complete listing of all classes. Select any class and you will be able to see the list of children's names and their pictures as well. A photo, with name, age, grade, birthdate and when the child came to Jatson Chumig. You'll also see who is being sponsored and just as importantly, which child you might want to consider sponsoring. You'll have many children's names and pictures to choose from.
If you've been to Jatson and have your favorite photo of a child, (possibly you and the child in the photo) please email it to us. Send your photo(s) to brian@jatsontibet.org and we'll put it on the web site. We'd like to create a Gallery filled with volunteers favorite photos.
