Jatson Chumig Recognized

During the month of May, 2010 - government officials from the Bureau of Education and the Office of Civil Affairs were at Jatson Chumig doing an examination in order to maintain both Licenses for the School & Orpahange and to continue operating as an independant school.

We are proud to announce that not only has Jatson Chumig been reissued new certificates but has been recognized as the best run school and orphanage in Lhasa, Tibet. Jatson students are performing at an outstanding level in both middle school and in high school. Congratulations to all Jatson Chumig students and to their teachers for preparing them in their studies.

Children's Day - Jatson Style
Around the world, June 1st is celebrated as Children's Day. This is especially important because the children are orphan's, most do not know the day/month they were born.

Children's Day,2010.June 1st is a BIG BIRTHDAY PARTY at Jatson Chumig. The day is filled with the kids performing songs and dance and ends with cake for everyone. Part of the ritual is when cake is served, you take a little bit of icing and put it on the tip of the nose of the person who gave you the slice. Of course, this GROWS into everyone wearing much more cake than eating it but is probably the most fun part of the day.

Jatson Cake.Jatson Chumig children love to perform. They do not do this as an "act" for tourists ... they do this because it celebrates their Tibetan heritage... and it's a lot of fun! Although we have no video of the kids performing this June 1, 2010 ... you can still click here to see the kids celebrating Losar, the Tibetan New Year, performed 14-Feb-'10.

Major Grants Collette_Foundation_Logo
The Collette Foundation is once again, helping Jatson Chumig.

In 2008-'09, Collette donated funds which were used to buy new summer & winter school uniforms for every student.

This year, 2010, The Collette Foundation is donating enough funds to be used to renovate an empty storage room into a new Kindergarten Room. It is is critical for the younger children to be in preschool and/or kindergarten throughout the year and to prepare them for Class I.   Watch the Collette/Jatson Video

The Shapiro Family Foundation has generously donated enough funds to Jatson Chumig for a brand new Physical Therapy Room to be created for the children who are physically challenged and are in need of daily PT to improve their lives. One-third of Jatson students need Physical Therapy, and this new room will be a great asset.

Rhode Island.Coincidently, both these foundations are located in the smallest state in the United States ... Rhode Island.
'Lil Rhody has come through in very big ways. We thank both these foundations and acknowledge their generosity, love and kindness to the children of Jatson Chumig.

Making a Difference
Anything is Possible
Making a Difference
Making a Difference

Often, as individuals, it's possible to see ourselves as unlikely to really make a big change in the world. Although great people have accomplished incredible things, it's easy to ask yourself; "Am I great?"

When anyone decides they are going to make a contribution to Jatson Chumig, they are doing a wonderful thing and this is greatness!

People from around the world are making a difference and Jatson Chumig is changing ...
for the better.

Our Benefactors, those who make a donation, are incredible people. There are too many to thank but let's mention how some people are giving.

A 6th grade class in Wisconsin / USA took up collections and sponsored a student in Class IV.

People on Facebook are getting involved and are making donations, some even sponsoring children.

Give-up-a-Cup Video...
Our Sponsor-a-Student program is critical to our success and also links a Jatson student with the sponsor through letters and notecards. Just who are these sponsors & kids?

Finally, one of the least invasive ways of helping has become our greatest resource. I am speaking of the dozens of people who have chosen  Option # 2 or Option # 3 from our Make a Donation page and have setup monthly donations.

This is why you see so many donations. Basically, there are a core group of people who make monthly donations between $5 & $50. These donations are
very important because they provide a steady stream of income which is wired into Jatson Chumig's Bank of China, account.

What occurs over the course of a year changes everything. The cost per month is ... up to you.
